The role of the Office of the Director General is to support the Director General so as to enable him to fulfill his functions smoothly and effectively, and under the direct supervision of the Director General, the Director of the ODG (Chef de Cabinet) will ensure close coordination with program managers across the Organization and will direct the work of the Cabinet team to deliver the following:
(a) strategic realignment of WIPO’s goals, structures and processes; (b) strategic planning and evaluation of results; including improved coherence, quality and delivery of program objectives; (c) productive coordination of cross-cutting issues between WIPO sectors and program managers; (d) anticipation of new issues and policy challenges, and presentation of policy options to the Director General; (e) advice to the Director General on communication with staff and external stakeholders; (f) liaison with representatives of member states and other organizations on substantive, political and procedural questions as required. The Director of the ODG (Chef de Cabinet) will also act as spokesperson for the Director General as required. |

(a) University degree in law, international relations, public administration, or other relevant field, or equivalent professional qualifications. (b) At least 15 years’ experience of international policy formulation and strategic planning at a senior level, either within a national administration or intergovernmental organization. (c) Proven management, organizational and leadership skills; ability to direct a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural team while discharging a diverse work-load under pressure. (d) Excellent communicator; high level representational, facilitation and negotiating skills in an international context. (e) Intellectual acuity and sound political judgment. (f) Wide knowledge of international intellectual property issues; well developed understanding of the work of WIPO. (g) Familiarity with the activities and procedures of the United Nations system highly desirable. Experience of working with industry and NGOs an advantage. (h) Discretion and integrity. (i) Excellent written and spoken English or French, with fluency in the other. Working knowledge of at least one other UN language an advantage. |
