The Head of Centre of Expertise of Patients Care Technologies (CoE PCT) leads and manages the medical devices activities of Merck Serono to ensure the supply of commercial devices that meet all quality and performance requirements and to ensure the development of state-of-the-art devices that provide added value to the company. The main tasks are: • Develop and manage a strong and effective team (CoE PCT) capable of supporting the company's needs; • Manage the supplier relationship activities for the manufacturing and supply of commercial devices fulfilling all quality and performance requirements; • Ensure development of new devices according to user and regulatory requirements and agreed project costs and timelines; • Support market introduction and sales and lead Life Cycle Management activities; • Develop state-of-the-art expertise in devices and exhaustive market knowledge; • Support marketing in establishing the appropriate strategy and portfolio for devices; • Establish and implement development and manufacturing strategy for devices.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES Managing Production of Commercial Devices • Ensure the supply of quality devices to support market requirements on time and at competitive costs • Ensure establishment of appropriate development and supply contracts with key suppliers • Support the subcontractors' manufacturing activities to ensure the availability and quality • Support the device packaging, distribution and sales activities to ensure timely supply of quality products • Qualify business partners and, with the support of Purchasing, negotiate commercial terms for development and supply of devices • Establish a program to support the training on devices, in collaboration with Marketing
Managing Development of New Devices • Manage all device development activities worldwide • Develop devices that meet patient requirements and provide added value to company's drugs • Effectively manage development projects and achieve objectives on time and in budget • Ensure that all devices comply with the applicable medical devices legislation and quality standards as required for key markets • Continuously enhance the expertise of CoE PCT through market research, industry contacts, training, congresses, associations and bench-marking • Liaise with manufacturing sites and corporate functions for the introduction of drug delivery systems
Managing Budgeting • Manage the department and project budgets whilst meeting CoE PCT's objectives • Make financial commitments in line with the authorized approval level • Provide financial and business reports, highlight major achievements and business risks and alert on critical issues Managing Quality & Performance • Monitor CoE PCT and device suppliers' KPIs and establish corrective actions as necessary • Maintain a Quality System within CoE PCT in compliance with regulatory and health authorities requirements as well as with company QA standards Strategy • Establish a development and manufacturing strategy in line with Merck Serono strategy and establish the appropriate structure to achieve objectives. • Analyze and understand market trends (pharmaceutical and devices) and technology changes and make proper recommendations
Managing People • Lead and motivate staff to successfully achieve their objectives and to encourage them in the resolution of issues • Identify, mobilize and coordinate best resources to ensure reliable performance and supply of commercial devices and success of each project • Propose team members for project work in agreement with relevant managers • Provide coaching and skill development and foster best talent management • Set operational objectives in line with Tech Ops MS and BMPD targets • Agree and review objectives with individuals according to company's process and establish full accountability • Enhance project management and technical skills within PCT • Develop retention / succession plans for key positions in cooperation with Head of BMPD • Recruit personnel in cooperation with Head of BMPD |

Fluent in English and in French or German (written and verbal communication). Minimum of 10 years work experience in the medical devices industry in development and manufacturing positions. International work experience in a large organization and in multi-cultural teams. Excellent track record in leading a department in a complex and challenging environment. Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Strong business mindset with demonstrated ability of conceptual and strategic thinking. Strong creative and strategic thinking. Excellent analytical skills. Good communicator with strong team spirit and relationship management. Excellent project management skills Candidate must be prepared for regular business travels to manufacturing sites and device suppliers. |
