Cisco is delivering to the market technology and products to enhance users experiences in the media and entertainment area; voice, integrated video and video-on-demand, HD video, HD Telepresence, mobile video, surveillance and remote control ... are only few examples of the applications supported and offered to the end user.
A key component of the overall solution are the network-based services such as quality of service, security, mobility; but even more critical is the interaction and the usage of such service set performed by the video endpoint.
In order to deliver high-quality user experience, a media-ready network will require a very close interoperability between the multimedia endpoint (whatever fashion it is) and the network infrastructure.
Software engineers joining the video team will be responsible for define, architect, implement and support this type of interactions and to deliver the required components on the video devices.
Major Accountabilities:
This is a software engineering position on a development team for video-enabled endpoints and media-ready network. The candidate will be responsible for functional specifications, design documents, coding, unit testing and internal & external support for software for video enabled solutions.
In this position, the ideal candidate will have opensource software development skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, C/C++ and object oriented programming language experience.
Multi-platform software development experience including opensource, Microsoft environment, Symbian or other frameworks will be a plus.
Experience and understanding of video applications and video streaming is highly recommended; detailed understanding of video encoding and streaming over IP networks will be a plus.

• Assume responsibility of modules of a complex system and deliver according to team expectation
• Develop functional specifications and design documents.
• Deliver software module specification including testing and debugging
• Integration and testing with the overall specified system
• Assume leadership role in the engineering team for user experience |

• Software development experience using C/C++ and/or object oriented programming language.
• Understanding of design issues and trade offs related to software modularity and abstraction versus memory/CPU performance.
• Experience working in Linux development environment and experience with software development tools – source code management (e.g. clearcase), debuggers, profilers, build and scripting tools.
• Excellent written and oral communications.
• Be self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and be flexible.
• Flexibility in working with various operating systems (working experience in multiple OS is a plus) : knowledge of Linux and Open Source system
• Experience in middleware and software abstraction layers for application integration
• Ability to multitask |
