Under the supervision of the responsible Program Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the work of the Innovation and Technology Transfer Section. Principal tasks include:
(a) analysis of the intersection between the patent system and technology transfer, including both cross-border transfer and transfer from universities and research institutions to the market, with particular focus on facilitating the transfer of technologies for the benefit of developing countries; (b) analysis of the role of the patent system in innovation and, in particular, its role in encouraging innovation; (c) elaboration of options and proposal of tools in respect of (a) and (b) above to ensure an effective contribution of WIPO in improving innovation and technology transfer mechanisms worldwide. This may include the preparation of studies, the furnishing of advice and assistance, the provision of tailor-made capacity building and training programs, and the elaboration of patent-related innovation strategies for Member States; (d) preparing and servicing WIPO meetings dealing with the above questions, including drafting documents and reports for such meetings; (e) representing WIPO at meetings of Member States, of other intergovernmental organizations and of national, regional and international non-governmental organizations; (f) participating in the implementation of other related work within the Division |

(a) Advanced university degree in science, economics, technology management, or other relevant discipline. (b) A minimum of 12 years of professional working experience in the field of science, innovation and technology transfer, including comprehensive experience in the area of industrial property, in particular, patents. Experience in the private sector would be an advantage. (c) Ability to analyze complex questions relating to innovation and technology transfer, and ability to communicate those issues to non-specialists. Capacity to participate in the scientific and policy debate in those areas. (d) Ability to work with a multi-cultural team. (e) Excellent written and spoken French or English and good knowledge of the other language. A working knowledge of other official UN languages would be an advantage. |
