The Internal Control function is independent of the bank operations and report on the appropriateness, efficiency and effectiveness of the internal control environment.
The Internal Control function: -support senior management in maintaining an effective internal control environment -ensure any control deficiencies are identified on a timely basis and corrected ___________________________________________________________
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews of business areas are performed assessing the inherent risks associated, the effectiveness of controls and their application and the adherence to Group Standards (e.g. GSM, FIM requirement).
An annual plan of areas to be reviewed by the internal control function is agreed with the PBRS Operational Risk Committee, the PBRS Risk Management Committee and the GPB Chief Risk Officer. The Internal Control Plan should cover the business areas outlined in Private Banking FIM section B.13.7.
In addition to the plan, reviews are also performed on an “ad hoc” basis or according to surveillance/detection risk based tools such as Concept Against Fraud (CAF).
Recommendations are made to management on control deficiencies and on improvement to processing and to internal control environment. Findings and recommendation are reviewed at a closing meeting with management of the business area.
A report containing the recommendation is issued in a timely manner to management and implementation of the recommendation is tracked.
The head of the Internal Control function is a member of the Operational Risk Review Group. The progress of the reviews against the internal Control Plan and significant issues identified during the review are reported to the Operational Risk Review Group. |
