Scientist R&D - Data Modeler
The successful candidate will join the Computational Science & Bioinformatics team and will apply mathematical modeling methodologies to identify complex relationships between plant biology, leaf and smoke chemistry and sensory characteristics with the purpose of contributing to the understanding of the next generation product (NGPs) properties. He/she will work closely with molecular biologists, geneticists, chemists and breeders in order to support design of experiment, data analysis and data modeling. The successful applicant will also cooperate with genomics and bioinformatics scientists for analyzing and modeling experimental data and meta-data and will develop mathematical / statistical methods for large-scale integrative data analysis. Activities mentioned above should speed up the discovery of important genes or chemical compounds.

Specifically, you will:
Apply, as well as take part in, mathematical methods development for the analysis of data derived from system biology experiments (analytical chemistry, gene expression, field trials)
Support the Applied Science scientists in the design of experiment, data analysis and modeling
Adapt and evolve advanced mathematical methods and models for mechanistic understanding of large and complex biological data generated from tobacco transcriptome, chemistry and sensory studies conducted within the Applied Science department
Cooperate with genomics and bioinformatics scientists to integrate experimental data and meta-data for relevant gene or chemical compound discovery in harm reduction studies
Draw conclusions based on data analysis and report recommendations, experiment objective, design, endpoints and methods for analysis.

You hold MA degree in the area of Applied Mathematics, chemometrics or statistics
A PhD degree in the domains mentioned above would be an asset
You have one or more years of proven research experience in the area of chemometrics, multivariate data analysis or gene chip data analysis
Experience in the multidisciplinary research field would be an asset
You possess a strong background in PLS methodologies, multivariate data analysis and multivariate design of experiment
You have good programming skills in R / S-Plus
Knowledge in Perl and web based reporting would be an asset
You have a basic knowledge in analytical chemistry and molecular biology
You have well developed project management skills
Your experience demonstrates the scientific creativity and passion for discovery as well as ability to manage simultaneous projects and to interact well with others irrespective of function or level
You speak English fluently.
