The candidate will be a key liaison with two of the global functions within Roche Global Research : Global Chemistry and Global Discovery Technologies. This means in practice being the first point of contact for the head and management of these global functions, participating in the discussions about their strategic technology needs, executing deals and optimizing setup of collaborations to satisfy these strategic needs, then managing those alliances to ensure sustainable value creation. The candidate will also work in one or more area(s) of Emerging Technologies (a strategy department part of Roche Group Research) and be responsible for liaising with Group Research on strategy-setting, and finding , executing and managing deals in line with strategic recommendations The candidate will work as the gate keeper for confidential information to avoid "contamination" of the Roche scientific teams (especially during due diligence activities). The candidate will manage the existing collaborations in terms aligning them to the working plan, finance and know-how/IP transfer. The candidate will compare the various alliances and will make proposals to the decision making bodies to enlarge or terminate individual collaborations The candidate will recommend new collaborations and will assist the scientific teams to work out the research plans The candidate will work together with the negotiation teams on negotiating and signing new deals The candidate will work on future business models with the partners. Scientific background (PhD or equivalent scientific experience) preferentially related to Drug Discovery (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology) with a strong interest in the Business area. MBA is be a plus, but not necessarily required. Fluent in English. Willingness to travel extensively. Significant experience in the field of Business Development/Partnering. Ideally the candidate possesses 3-10 years of experience in that field. Track record in initiating, negotiating (as part of a team) and managing alliances. Ideally has had a leadership role in several of these projects. 10-15 years of experience in the overall Pharmaceutical R&D field. Has made impactful presentations to senior management. Established network with biotech companies and academic institutions. High performing Team worker. Shows flexibility in terms of work content, processes, workload, travel. Organization and planning skills. Communication / consensus building skills. Presentation skills. Influencing/Persuasion skills - Ability and willingness to challenge the organization. Strategic and disciplined thinking - Ability to extract and communicate clear objectives even amid a rapidly-shifting scientific landscape. Results orientation. Open-minded and willing to fight for new ideas. Pro-active, taking initiatives within assigned area and proposing ideas outside it.
