The Director is responsible for the overall management of Better Work, including its operational, financial, administrative and human resource management (including staff recruitment and performance management), resource mobilization, country and global operations, the content of tools and resources, and public statements on behalf of Better Work. The Director reports directly to a joint IFC and ILO Management Group. All Better Work staff at the global and country level report through the Director to the Management Group. Description of Duties 1. Provide operational, financial, administrative and human resource management (including staff recruitment and performance management) of a major global programme; 2. Lead secretarial support to the Better Work governance structure including the Management Group and the Advisory Structures in accordance with the terms of the Cooperation Agreement between the IFC and ILO; 3. Undertake resource mobilization and donor relations; 4. Manage the development and deployment of Better Work innovative tools and resources including responsibility for technical content; 5. Ensure high quality monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment using an evidence-based approach; 6. Direct knowledge management and the dissemination of programme information; 7. Represent the programme as the lead spokesperson for Better Work internally and externally, representing the programme in global and regional fora and taking into account the interests of both partner organizations; 8. Provide high level technical advice and policy advice to programme partners; 9. Manage relationships with stakeholders at global and regional levels. |

Advanced university degree, or equivalent experience, in a relevant field such as international development, social sciences, economics, law, adult education. At least fifteen years relevant professional experience including at least ten years experience working at an international level. Relevant experience includes the management and implementation of development cooperation projects, in the following areas: social dialogue, private sector development, labour law and policy administration, corporate social responsibility, enterprise development, and/or labour standards compliance in supply chains.
Competencies 1. Excellent administrative, financial and human resource managerial skills including proven leadership ability within large organisations; 2. Proven ability to effectively plan, direct, organise and administer diverse activities to ensure effective delivery of work programme; 3. Demonstrated strategic planning skills and capacity to guide development of policies and strategies; 4. Recognised technical expert in the field of labour standards and global supply chains including operationalisation of field programmes; 5. Excellent analytical skills, including demonstrated ability to provide policy, strategic advice and recommendations; 6. Ability to manage stakeholder relations, and build consensus, in a highly sensitive area; 7. High level knowledge and demonstrated ability in project formulation, administration, evaluation and impact assessment; 8. Ability to mobilise resources and build collaborative donor relationships; 9. High level of understanding of gender equality and gender mainstreaming principles and approaches; 10. High level communications skills, both oral and written, including capacity to represent the organisation, work with the media, and to operate in a multi-cultural environment. |
