The EU Marketing Team is responsible for connecting our target audiences with Yahoo!, driving more traffic from our audiences and empowering the local markets to drive engagement. The EU Marketing team is functionally driven with 5 key teams (B2C, B2B, P.R., Research, Brand) and is supported by virtual local teams in the 5 core EU Markets: UK, FR, DE, IT and ES. The team is also closely aligned with the Global Functional teams in Sunnyvale. The EU Communications team is built up of a central EU team and a PR team in each of the key Yahoo! Markets in Europe. The team currently consists of 10 full time employees. The EU Communications Director will report to the Head of European Marketing at Yahoo! and will be a core contributor to the marketing staff in terms of strategy, counsel, and direction, and also a primary strategic consultant to the Head of Yahoo! Europe. This person will also be the strategic link between Europe and HQ communications programs and will have a dotted line responsibility to the Head of Global Communications as well as access to and accountability to the Head of International Marketing.
The ideal candidate will have over 10+ years experience in leading and managing remote teams to drive successful communication strategies. Having both in-house and agency experience the ideal candidate would have worked at a senior level to create and deliver communication plans across Europe. Winning candidates will have a “can do” attitude, ability to succeed in matrixed environments, and a creative, “big picture” mind and approach.
Responsibilities: - Build regional strategy across B2B and B2C - Responsible for internal comms throughout the region - Responsible for regional content review before content goes to HQ for final approval - Deliver regional reports and metrics to support business requirements - Provide regional executive comms including coaching and externalizing the senior team - Manage and develop the team across multiple sites to empower them to deliver local business objectives - Develop a winning team with clear succession planning and career development - Providing functional leadership to the locally based PR teams, ensuring that local PR strategies and plans both deliver the needs of local business as well as supporting the delivery of regional and global initiatives - Ensure regional policy is applied - Regional CSR (corporate social responsibility) - Prepare Senior Executives for tours/visits within the region - Working closely with HQ to manage key agency relationships ensuring the right agencies are engaged and meet the needs of the business - Provide strategic advice on Joint Venture PR-to-PR engagement - Regional PR agency and in-house summits to educate, motivate, and align broad team resources - Act as regional spokesperson for strategic issues - Responsible for crisis communications (at the regional level and as the HQ liaison for global issues) - Guided by HQ communication, localize and roll out in regards to Mergers & acquisitions - Deliver communications around quarterly results and financial issues |

- 10+ years PR experience gained within consumer and corporate PR - Proven track record of leading, managing and developing successful teams across multiple sites - Minimum 5 years people management experience – someone who can demonstrate competence in identifying, motivating, developing and retaining highly talented individuals and teams - Solid remote management experience - Excellent knowledge of broadcast, print and online media, ideally within a pan-European context - Excellent leadership, negotiation, communication and presentation skills – feels very comfortable when operating with senior management and external stakeholders - First class influencing skills with a demonstrable track record of delivering in a pan-European context - Experience of operating in a matrix organisation - Established pan-european network of media contacts - Culturally savvy and sensitive - Fluent English speaker essential, ideally with knowledge of other European languages - To be successful in any role at Yahoo! requires someone who has a sense of urgency, doesn’t take themselves too seriously, is passionate about the internet, happy to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in, game for a laugh, happy in an informal, hectic environment, who enjoys working under pressure to tight deadlines and has a high tolerance for ambiguity and change - Having the right skills, knowledge, experience and attitude are more important than formal academic qualifications.
