Under the supervision of the Head, Partnership and Promotion Division of the Telecommunication Development Bureau and working in close collaboration with the Corporate Communication Service in SPM to ensure consistency in activities related to promotion and communication and to ensure compliance with ITU corporate communication programmes and policies, the incumbent: • Proactively reaches out and seeks the support of ITU-D Sector Members to promote an accurate image of the ITU-D and its activities; builds and actively maintains relations and effective communication channels with key industry players for the promotion of the Sector; constantly monitors media for ITU-D coverage; develops and implements measures to improve awareness of the Sector's activities within the telecoms environment. • Identifies players in the telecoms industry whose interests relate to the various subjects dealt with by ITU-D activities, actively promotes ITU-D activities; develops and implements strategies to obtain maximum visibility for ITU-D events; develops and implements promotional strategies resulting in increased industry interest in ITU-D's work. • In close consultation with ITU-D Officers, identifies opportunities to draw attention to and promote, within the corporate world, the Sector's events, study topics and technical highlights, identifies target audiences and information relevant thereto and takes action to respond to communication opportunities as they arise. • Writes ITU-D communication and promotion texts such as newsletters, positioning statements, speeches; identifies and selects the relevant target corporate audiences and develops communication products as appropriate. • Keeps abreast of the communication and information activities of other ITU Sectors and develops joint communication campaigns as appropriate. • Writes and reviews web content provided by other ITU staff or external sources. In collaboration with web staff of the Bureau, recommends improvements in the presentation, content and lay-out as necessary with a view to optimizing the use of the ITU-D web as a communication and promotion tool. • Performs other duties as required. |

• University degree in communications, political or social sciences, public or international relations, humanities, journalism, liberal arts or related field OR education in a reputed college of advanced education, with a diploma of equivalent standard to that of a university degree in one of the above-mentioned fields. A qualifying combination of education, university training and experience may be considered in lieu of a university degree in the case where no suitable candidate with a degree is identified. • At least five years of experience including two years at the international level as writer, editor, reporter, press or communication officer. • Excellent knowledge of one of the six official languages of the ITU (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish) and very good knowledge of a second language. The knowledge of a third language would be an advantage. (Under the provisions of Resolution No. 626 of the Council, a relaxation of the language requirements may be authorized in the case of candidates from developing countries.)
