Technical Engineer (Electronics)
The Safety Commission acts, on behalf of the Director-General, as CERN’s institutional authority on safety matters (occupational health and safety, radiation and environmental protection, safety of equipment and installation). It reports directly to the Director-General and assists him in the implementation of the CERN Safety policy. As part of the Safety Commission, the Radiation Protection (DG-SCR) Group assesses the hazards relating to risks of exposure to ionizing radiation, ensuring that exposure is kept as low as possible. Duties also include radiation protection studies for new experiments and future projects, operational radiation protection for existing installations, monitoring of the occupational exposure of personnel, and the management of radioactive sources and radioactive waste. Within DG-SCR Group, the IL Section (Instrumentation & Logistics) is responsible for the procurement, installation, commissioning and maintenance of instrumentation for radiation monitoring and alarms systems for radiation protection of CERN’s facilities and for the environment. The IL Section is also responsible for the design of specialised equipment for radiation protection.

The successful candidate will be entrusted with activities on the radiation monitoring systems (ARCON and RAMSES) for the LHC and its injection chain and will:
Design, develop, construct and commission electronics equipment for radiation measurement (hardware and software);
Design and produce test equipments for radiation protection instrumentation;
Contribute to the operation, preventive and corrective maintenance, and upgrade of radiation measuring systems;
Produce and maintain project documentation;
Participate in the management of large scale projects and contracts in collaboration with the Section Leader;
Propose and introduce a quality assurance programme for the systems and the Section's activities.
Qualifications: Engineering Degree
Experience: 3 years +
Languages: French : Speak Fluently

Technical engineer diploma in electronics or equivalent.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the design, construction and commissioning of electronics equipment (hardware and software).
Experience of development based on PLC is required.
Knowledge in one or more of the following domains would be an advantage:
Digital electronics: FPGA, TTL logic and VME interface design;
Analogue electronics: low current measurement (pico ampere);
Software: LabView, C, C++, Visual Basic, IEC1131;
Communication protocols: TCP/IP, MODBUS, PROFIBUS, Ethernet;
WINDOWS and WINDOWS CE Environments.
Experience in project management and in particular in preparing specifications and negotiating with counterparts with subcontractors.
Practice of a quality assurance system
Good knowledge of English or French; basic knowledge of the other language or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.
