Trade Director EMEA - Dublin
The Global Trade Organization (GTO) is chartered with ensuring that Microsoft remains in compliance with US, multilateral, and national import and export laws while ensuring unimpeded access to global markets. While doing so, GTO strives to:
1) Establish a strong network of relationships with Trade regulatory agenices charged with rules governing customs tarrifs and controls on Microsoft technology.
2) Foster an understanding of technology trends and business models among regulators, and engage in dialogue about how to ensure changes to regulations meet the needs of industry as well as government.
3) Facilitate efficient and compliant import and activity.

Microsoft is seeking a Director of Trade Execution & Policy, for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) Region, to be located in Dublin. This role reports directly to the head of Global Trade in the US. Overall you will be responsible for management of trade compliance and risk mitigation for all of the Company’s entities in this region.

As Director, you will provide strategic leadership, planning and management for the Trade function in this region and will work closely with the Senior Business heads to ensure smooth operational effectiveness of the Trade function. You will also be the lead regulatory contact for Trade Compliance in the region; and participate in relevant trade and customs policy group initiatives to keep current on regulations related to import compliance and to track, monitor, and influence direction to be taken with government on trade initiatives/programs affecting business interests in the Region. Past experience successfully managing significant trade policy issues, and strong relationships with trade associations and policy makers in the region are required.

Within this role, you will wear both the hat of problem-solver and regional policy strategy and process leader. Ideal candidates will have managed a Trade Compliance function in the region, preferably for a Hi-Tech company, and have a strong background and depth of understanding of customs rules and valuation. Understanding of trends in regional controls policies for technology such as encryption will also be highly valued.

A strong team is required, who can understand and assimilate many points of view, and summarize business needs into a logical strategy that helps move forward positive reationships both internally and externally. This role will oversee a team responsibile for ensuring that product and delivery programs are in accordance with local and international standards and law. The successful candidate will have exceptional people management skills, and be a leader and mentor with a track record of positive team development.

10 plus years of relevant experience
Experience with complex customs valuation models required.
Experienced engagement at the policy/regulator level and a history of moving strategic initiatives preferred.
Experience related to U.S. and foreign customs compliance regulations, preferably within a software and/or hi-tech industry for Ireland
Knowledge of bi-lateral, regional, and other beneficial trade agreements or programs throughout the region
Proven experience integrating trade processes into varied business model
Working knowledge of international customs regulations for software valuation and related media required
Experience with international taxation rules preferred
Team player
Excellent people management skills
