Under the general supervision of the Head of the Debt and Development Finance Branch, and the direct supervision of the Senior Sovereign Debt Expert, Division on Globalization and Development Strategies, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
1. Conducts economic research and makes policy recommendations in the areas of: (a) debt sustainability analysis, (b) official development assistance, (c) responsible lending and borrowing practices, (d) debt sustainability framework, (e) debt relief initiatives, (f) risk management, and (g) durable solutions to the debt problems of developing countries. 2. Assists in the organization and servicing of Expert Group meetings, Advisory Committee meetings, seminars and other events organized which are related to the project. (a) Prepares background documents for meetings, and (b) Compiles and communicates the outcome of such meetings. 3. Manages the project's website and project portal. (a) Monitors traffic on the portal and replies to requests and questions. (b) Moderates Portal discussions. (c) Posts relevant documents to the website. 4. Follows intergovernmental meetings and prepares summary reports, other information for the general public, briefs and other similar material.

Education: Advanced University Degree in International Affairs, Development Economics or related field. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Work Experience: At least two years of relevant working experience in economic policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area. Experience in public relations is an advantage. Languages: Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, (English or French) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another official UN language would be considered as an advantage. Other skills: The incumbent must have good computer skills.
Professionalism: Knowledge of international debt issues; sound knowledge of economic and international affairs; analytical problem solving skills; sound judgment and the ability to work independently. Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; ability to function in-and interact with other members of a small project team; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.
