Director Strategic Planning
Design and lead the roll-out of an annual planning calendar
Implementing and managing new strategic tools and methodologies
Coordinating long term strategic planning and leading mid term (4-year) planning
Continuously improving the way we evaluate strategic options and take strategic decisions (e.g. scenario planning)
Monitoring strategy implementation
Supporting the transition from planning to one-year budgeting

Conducting various strategic project work (organization, key countries, key indications/markets, company performance) as defined by the Executive Management Board (EMB), which may include leading cross-functional teams and supervising internal or external consultants:

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy Definition and Strategic Planning
Design, lead and facilitate the Merck Serono Strategy process (long and mid term planning)
Ensure strategic alignment within Merck Serono throughout the strategic planning process and throughout execution
Continuously improve the way we evaluate strategic options and take strategic decisions (e.g. scenario planning)
Interface with all coordinating functions of the company

Ensure proper integration of expert function information, in particular portfolio development and global business intelligence
Define the Annual Strategy Planning calendar and ensure adequate integration with the financial operative planning and the planning activities under Function responsibility
Mid term (4-year-strategic) planning: Drive / coordinate all planning related activities and prepare EMB presentations
Ensure the transition from planning to one-year budgeting
Strategy Implementation and Performance Management
Translate the strategy into operational activities
Design, adapt and operate mechanisms to monitor progress of strategy implementation by leveraging available information from the Functions; link to monitoring approach of the Merck Group board
Mainly in the context of strategy: lead projects evaluating or implementing strategic opportunities
Ensure strong link to the Balanced Scorecard and target setting processes / performance management
Methodology
Ensure together with Portfolio Management and Business Intelligence leveraging, processing and communication of relevant information
Provide external and internal benchmarking
Qualifications: Masters degree (science and/ or economics)
Experience: 7 years +
Languages: French : Speak Well
German : Speak Well
English : Speak / Write Fluently

Sound understanding of the pharmaceutical industry documented through project work
International background
Excellent English language verbal and written skills, knowledge of German/French language an asset
Min. 4-5 years experience in known top management consultancy or pharmaceutical business or large corporate
Practical experience in strategic planning; ideally experience in financial modelling
Used to working with complex, interdisciplinary processes
Previous experience of working with Balance Scorecard programmes or company performance dashboards would be desirable
