Head Basel Biotech Manufacturing
The 'Head Basel Biotech Manufacturing' is a member of the Biochemical Manufacturing Leadership Team, and as such, plays key role in defining, setting and implementing the long-, medium, and short-range vision, strategy, objectives and plans the overall function. The Head Basel Biotech Manufacturing is responsible for leading and overseeing the assigned plant's operations, management and staff, with direct and indirect reports at approximately 250 individuals or more. In this role you will particularly be accountable for :

- all plant operations; including staffing, manufacturing, engineering, validation, facilities, technology, warehousing, Safety, Health & Environmental and operational excellence
- consistently meeting the assigned production plans, on-time, on-target and within-budget, in accordance with all safety, quality, compliance, regulatory, productivity and other performance metrics and targets
- championing initiatives, best practices, continuous process improvement, compliance, quality and acting as a lead business process owner for biochemical manufacturing core and sub-processes
- staying abreast of internal and external industry and marketplace dynamics and evolutions. Identifying industry or other marketplace trends and dynamics that potentially impact Roche and its production operations
- making important contributions to the annual, medium- and longer-range vision, strategy, objectives and plans of Biochemical Manufacturing
- coaching and guiding direct reports and their staff in their work and on interactions and communications with internal and external customers, partners and stakeholders
- ongoing development and improvement of the infrastructure necessary for the plant to effectively and efficiently deliver against its vision, strategy, plans and objectives
- building and maintaining a world-class team, developing talents and ensuring that a robust succession plan is in place, at all times, for key positions within the plant
Qualifications: Masters degree (life sciences, engineering or business disciplines)

- academic qualification at a master's degree level or higher in life sciences, engineering or business disciplines
- 10-15 or more years of related professional experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry (manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, project management, facilities management, operational excellence etc). Several years of experience in managing direct and indirect reports. Previous managerial experience includes leading and overseeing large workforces (>100 individuals)
- experience across a wide range of pharmaceutical technologies is strongly preferred (bulk proteins, small molecule API, sterile filling, capsule and tablet production, pharmaceutical packaging and production of medical devices). Experience of planning, leading and overseeing large construction or other capital projects (ideally within the biotech, pharmaceutical or related industry)
- considerable previous experience successfully interacting with management at all levels, across the enterprise. Clear and concise communicator, willing to take a stand and intelligent, informed risks. Demonstrates a track record of consistently appropriate business judgment and decisions. Ability to travel (30-40%)
- outstanding strategic orientation; consistently stays ahead of the industry, and has proven abilities to develop innovative and long-range vision and strategy
- outstanding business and financial acumen. Demonstrable abilities to effectively and efficiently manage large-scale workforces, production plans, operating budgets and other resources for maximum results
- outstanding leadership skills; proven track record in building large-scale functions and organizations and leading others to consistently meet or exceed targets, goals and expectations
- outstanding influencing, diplomacy, negotiation and collaboration skills. Effectively builds internal and external relationships. Proven track record and reputation in the industry; considered an expert and influencer and can leverage relationships to extend or otherwise improve business opportunities. Superior problem-solving skills with proven abilities to anticipate issues and recommend effective and efficient solutions. In-depth knowledge of best practice manufacturing methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma as well as outstanding change management skills
