As Head of Research & Development (R&D) Information & Knowledge Services you will provide the strategic expertise and leadership within Information & Knowledge Services necessary to help the R&D function achieve demonstrable improvements in the cost and quality of service delivery through the use of new innovative solutions and existing investments. This role can be based in Geneva or in Darmstadt (Germany)
Main Tasks & Responsibilities :
Functional Tasks:
•Responsible for implementing and leading the Information and Knowledge Management Services (IKS) organization to deliver services that enhance strategic goals of R&D
•Accountable for budget, transparency and delivery measurement of information services
•Accountable for optimal usage of investments and realization of value
•Propose consulting initiative and process excellence opportunities to R&D Management team
•Be aware of changes in health, regulatory and reporting standards in Pharmaceutical industry and propose and implement solutions to comply with them
•Responsible for making sure that new technologies and industry innovations are introduced in a cost effective value-added manner
•Responsible for an effective partnership with Corporate IT
•Develop, execute and maintain strategy for innovation and thought leadership in IKS. Specific responsibilities may include:
◦Expected to possess current knowledge concerning major health and pharmaceutical initiatives at the government and industry level, including mandates and standards and explain the impact of these to R&D Management team
◦Create and perpetuate organizational culture embodying Merck Serono Core Values
◦Anticipate customer needs and provide innovative solutions creatively resolving issues before they become problems. Plan and act strategically by anticipating opportunities, analyzing competitive posture, and developing/implementing successful programs based on that analysis
◦Lead R&D IT Steering Committee to:
■Decide on resource investments to support the organization's business strategy and provides input to corporate budget cycle
■Decide on information and knowledge systems strategy to support the R&D strategy
◦Gain commitment of peers and subordinates to corporate, division, and operating unit visions/missions and create a desire to excel
◦Encourage others to express and exchange ideas and information while accurately sharing relevant information in a timely manner
◦Influence others to alter viewpoints and change behaviors to meet/exceed the needs of the organization and its clients
◦Build effective relationships demonstrating tact and diplomacy
◦Provide valued advice and counsel at senior levels
Managerial Tasks :
•Implementing, structuring and leading the Information and Knowledge Management Services (IKS) organization wich consists of 10-15 team members |

•Scientific degree combined with a qualification or experience in Computer Science
•Written and spoken English fluent
•10 years of experience in leading positions in the field
•Very strong knowledge and expertise in Computer Science
•Proven experience in drug discovery & development
•Understanding of analytics methods and tools to achieve process improvement, enhance business value and/or improve current processes
•Management and administration from a practice perspective, including career plan development and change management
•Experience in developing and managing with electronic information solutions, and strong background in portfolio management and budget management
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Able to build networks and manage by influencing & convincing
•Strategic thinking capabilities and result orientation
•Good negotiating skills
•Management skills pertaining to the ability to organize, prioritize, delegate, allocate and make decisions |
