Head of Secretariat - Committee on the Global Financial System (CGFS)
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is an international financial institution that promotes central bank cooperation and provides banking services exclusively to central banks. Based in Basel, Switzerland, with representative offices for Asia and the Pacific in Hong Kong SAR and for the Americas in Mexico City, the BIS has staff from some 50 countries. The BIS seeks to fill the position of Head of Secretariat, CGFS for the BIS headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.
Principal accountabilities - To act as Secretary to the Committee on the Global Financial System. - To oversee the work of the Secretary of the Markets Committee. - To supervise a team preparing policy-oriented analyses of developments bearing on the stability and functioning of the global financial system. - To oversee the preparation of reports by working groups of central banks. - To identify issues of policy interest in the above areas and to organise and contribute to studies, in close liaison with other parts of the Monetary and Economic Department (MED). - To represent the BIS in meetings and seminars hosted by central banks and other organisations. - To develop contacts within MED and in central bank, academic and financial market circles with a view to supporting the statistical and analytical work of the Committee.

PhD in economics or finance from a university of international standing (or equivalent professional experience). Previous experience in supporting senior officials in preparing papers for policy committees or groups. Experience in detailed analysis of financial system issues (publications, internal notes, etc). Good knowledge of financial system issues in emerging market economies an advantage. Excellent drafting and communication skills in English for both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Diplomatic skills in dealing with senior officials from central banks. Strong team spirit with good interpersonal skills.
