The role of the Office of the Director General (ODG) is to advise and assist the Director General in carrying out his duties efficiently and effectively in pursuit of the Organization’s strategic goals; to coordinate the work of the various Sectors of the Organization; and to lead strategic planning processes. In performing its duties, the ODG seeks to exemplify the Organization’s commitment to its core values, namely: service orientation; working as one; accountability for results; and environmental, social and governance responsibility. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of the ODG and Chief of Staff, the advisor will work closely with the other members of the ODG team to perform the following principal duties:
* analyzing specific policy and organizational issues and submitting advice to the Director General as required; * preparing the Director General’s meetings and ensuring that he is kept well informed on developments and activities which require his attention; * facilitating effective consultation on political and procedural questions through liaison with Regional Coordinators and other Member States’ representatives; * ensuring effective communication with the Senior Management Team, staff, Member States and other stakeholders; representing the ODG at internal and external meetings as required; * providing input to the strategic planning processes managed by the ODG; * advising the Executive Director and Chief of Staff on program management, administrative and management matters as required; preparation and review of documents, papers and communications as requested by the Chief of Staff; * ensuring the efficient management and quality of all Spanish language correspondence from the Director General; * other administrative, representational and organizational tasks, as required.

* University degree in law, international relations, political science, development or related field. * At least nine years professional experience, with a strong performance record, including in the areas of international diplomacy, policy advice and strategic planning, preferably either in a national administration or an intergovernmental organization. Direct experience of the United Nations system an advantage. * Broad knowledge of intellectual property issues, and a good understanding of the strategic objectives and activities of WIPO. Proven ability to master new subjects rapidly. * Proven organizational skills; ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure. * Effective communicator. Representational, diplomatic or facilitation skills, demonstrated in an international context. * Team worker; able to inspire the confidence of colleagues in a multi-cultural environment. * Sound political judgment. Discretion and integrity. * Excellent Spanish language drafting skills and a high level of oral fluency in Spanish; as well as fluency in English, oral and written. |
